As someone who had to wear opaque black tights all through school (in winter), I grew to love the basic silhouette a good black opaque tight could deliver. As I got older I wore them into my 20s. With short skirts and shirts, then into my 30s under long shorts and more recently under dresses any length from ankle to thigh.
I’ve never glanced sideways to consider the sheer option. They always felt a little too Melanie Griffith in Working Girl. Is anyone else still triggered to recall the awful TV campaign of the 80s for Razzamatazz stockings when they see them in the supermarket? Uh ok indeed.
But recently, like the shoulder pad and the sheer skirt, I’m feeling a pull towards the sheer tights. It’s in part due to the influence of that New Yorker with the world’s best show closet Arielle Charmas. Her recent Aspen OOTD posts had me all keen to know exactly where she got her tights from. Here’s what they looked like:

The always fabulous Leandra MCohen is also giving me ideas for how to do this look.

And my fave, Vic Montanari experiments with green which I love too.

Stand by for an at-home try on. I’ll see if i can make it work for me too.
