Having had the luxury of some extra time recently, I took great pleasure in watching the various fashion shows as these paraded around the world. Not all of them of course but the ones presented by brands I love. And whilst I don’t watch these shows to identify trends per se, I look at them to get a sense or a vibe for what options I might have when I’m getting dressed.
Often times they’ll be too OTT for my day to day or work dressing. But occasionally I see something that I know I can work with in my own way. One of the most special wardrobe items I observed again and again was the very sheer skirt. A sort of almost see-through sheath. Not voluminous this skirt has a slightly gothic feel to it and it’s not actually trying to be overtly sexy.
I don’t really gravitate towards dresses or skirts that are whimsical, or floaty or super feminine. I like more structure and I like clothes that speak plainly but I think I may have found the exception to my rule here.
Sometimes worn over full brief ish underwear, boy shorts or short skirts. Or for the less brave over pants, jeans and shorter dresses, I think they are really feminine and beautiful to look at and for the first time in a long time, I thought about how I might integrate such a speciality into my wardrobe. And whilst they do give something very female I also think you can man them up a bit. They don’t need to be frilly and frothy.
Have a look at this wonderful version by one of my faves Tibi, the sheer gauze maxi pencil in black. Styled here to perfection with a shite singlet and some elegant flats.

Another option which is slightly more achievable if you don’t fancy exposing your inner thigh profile to all and sundry, is this Frankie Shop skirt with a short skirt (mini length really) layer of lining for a little built in modesty. Triumphant with a sneaker and black sock which can traipse from Sunday breakie to weekday work.

Or if you want something lighter and creamier try this, I mean it could almost be bridal if you extended it up and replaced the sneakers. Mix it with a red sock and some brown Miu Miu leather deck shoes. Ooft so good.

We’ll see. I think I may look for an inexpensive but fabulous high street option. Stay tuned, I’ll let you know if I find the right one.
